Navy is the colour people buy when black feels obvious, and the Penina is the shoe that rewards the decision. It is a pointed flat that has been quietly updated rather than redesigned.

New materials and colours came with that update, including glossy nappa leather and a shimmery embossed metallic finish; this one is suede. The heel is 0.7", enough to lift the foot without registering as a heel at all. Partial sacchetto construction runs through the build, and the rubber outsole underneath is made for comfort and flex rather than looks. Made in Italy.

A pointed flat is the most useful shoe in a working wardrobe, because it does the job of a pump without the negotiation at the end of the day. Wear it with trousers that break at the ankle, or with a skirt when a heel would be too much effort.
