Description
The Mary Jane is back, and the Penelopy is the grown-up version of it: black, sharp at the toe, and fastened with a buckle rather than a strap that flaps.
Two finishes meet on the upper, nappa and patent leather, which is what gives the shoe its shift between matte and shine. The toe is a classic point and the heel is covered, standing 2.9". The buckle closure is polished, doing decorative work as well as holding the foot in place. A rubber outsole is fitted below. Made in Italy, and weatherproof.
It looks best with something narrow: a pencil skirt with opaque tights, or tailored trousers cut close to the ankle. The strap draws a line across the foot, which shortens it visually, so let the rest of the outfit be long and straight and the proportion sorts itself out.
